Hi there does anyone know what the regulations are for selling eggs from the farm I know they have to be stamped but unsure how to go about it or even if its worth it, Id be talking about duck eggs as well as hens eggs, I know its not 'legal' to sell them from the gate so to speak I would like to do it properly so any advice would be great

with hen eggs you can sell from your house with duck eggs you can sell from your house or even from a shop if the department of agriculture has visited where you keep your Hens, ducks. and are happy with whatever they need to be happy with
I got them out about five years ago I had no problems with the guy who came to visit he was human. _________________ We Are The Borg! You Will Be Assimilated! Resistance Is Futile |

Just know about hen eggs: if you have less than 50 hens and sell direct from the farm or at a local market to the consumer that's fine. You don't need to stamp them and you are not supposed to grade them, make indications regarding the system they are kept in or their feed etc. Your name and address needs to be shown on the box or on a sign where the eggs are sold (e.g. honour box).
The reverse is the case when you are selling through third parties, e.g. shops.
The relevant Irish regulation can be found at
http://www.agriculture.gov.ie/med...oryinstruments2007/SI810-2007.pdf
It sets out all the requirements for marketing eggs. The crucial paragraph is:
| Quote: | | (3) These Regulations do not apply to eggs sold directly by a producer to the final consumer in accordance with Article 1(2) of the Council Regulation* provided that, if the producer has a flock of more than 50 hens, the eggs are marked with the producer code and, if the producer has a flock of up to 50 hens, the name and address of the producer are indicated at the point of sale. |
*COUNCIL REGULATION (EC) No 1028/2006 of 19 June 2006 on marketing standards for eggs
Art. 1(2):
| Quote: | 2. Member States may exempt from the requirements of this Regulation, with the exception of Article 4(3), eggs sold directly to the final consumer by the producer:
(a) on the production site, or
(b) in a local public market or by door-to-door selling in the region of production of the Member State concerned.
Where such exemption is granted, each producer shall be able to choose whether to apply such exemption or not. Where this exemption is applied, no quality and weight grading may be used. |
