Hi All
Is there such a thing and if so does it actually work?
Going to attempt the spuds in the tyres.
Thanks

The Organic organisations allow the use of Bordeaux or Burgandy mixture - a concoction made from copper sulphate/bluestone. It is hardly organic but then is a chemical compound, made from natural ingredients organic?
Blight is an airborne virus, so you could use fleece or grow them in a polytunnel.
There are several blight resistant varieties available but the virus soon mutates to catch them as well and so new varieties are introduced and so on.
You can always let the blight do its worst, cut off the diseased haulms (stalks) and then just dig out the spuds as required. If the soil is not disturbed, the virus may not penetrate to the tubers.
With the tyre method, you could possibly cover them with plastic sheet or whatever, when there is a blight warning on the radio. |
