Loads of nettles in my neighbours field...and I mean LOADS!

Goats love them when they're wilted...anyone out there tried making hay from nettles?

Thinking of scything them down, wilting and heaping up the dried nettles as winter fodder. Is it worth it? Deep rooting, so probably full of minerals, but has anyone ever tried this?

D

Hi David,
I tried drying some bundles once (hung them in the shed) but they got mouldy. Maybe if it's done in really good weather at the height of summer it might work. I just go with cutting and wilting, and leave some for the butterflies and for chook food.

Mine went mouldy quite quickly too, but must give it another try before I use them all for wine!
