Hi all,
well.....we've got our run set up and well fenced. The coop is in place, the cat has been warned and the neighbours are signed for babysitting whenever the needs arise......so we are anxious to acquire our first flock.
After weeks or research we finally decided on what breeds we would like.
Would appreciate any feedback from folks in the know as to where we can buy POL or just laying hens of the following breeds:
Silkies x 2
Araucana x 1
Cochin x 1
Brahma x 1
Will consider taking Plymouth Rocks/Orpingtons/Sussex in place of the Cochin & Brahma.
We are in Cork County but willing to travel!!
Thanks in advance.

Hi G-D-D and welcome to the forum
That is a very specific list , presumably chosen for their individual characteristics ?
We have several chicken fanciers on the forum and I am sure someone will come up with something or at least point you in the right direction .
Meanwhile I have a reclusive brown and white cockerel of dubious character which is your free gift for being our 125 th member .
It is yours to collect whether you want it or not
Good luck |

Thanks for the welcome blowin.
Indeed, the breeds have been chosen for their characteristics. Spent many many hours researching to make sure I got the right breeds.
Looking forward to hearing from the chicken fanciers on the forum.
And I thank you for your kind offer.........but I'm not venturing into cockerel territory just yet......but maybe some time in the future. |

Hi there,
can't help you with any of those breeds. Have a couple Jubilee Orpingtons but they only hatched 2 days ago....
My advice would be to post an ad at
http://www.irishpoultrysociety.com/news.html for what you want.
Also take a look at the "Upcoming shows and sales" and/or join the association, get the members list (it gives the breeds that folks have/breed) and "let your fingers do the walking".
That's your best bet for getting purebreds.

Hi there,
I have some LS eggs in the incubator at the moment, due to hatch in 14 days, if you are still interested at any point over the coming 8 weeks let me know and I'll keep a couple of hens for you if I get any.
Anyone else interested in Light Sussex, let me know! |

Thanks for that egirl. I had been telling 'chook' that I actually managed to get sorted close to home two weeks ago or so.
Guess it would have been an idea to post that information!
Thanks for the offer though. |
