Anyone into Donkeys? I think one around the place and used for a bit of draught work might be a fun idea. Wink

I am into the avoidance of donkeys because the bloomin things bite . But isn't there a grant to be had for the first foal from a native breed ? I seem to remember something like that but never looked into the detail .

I love them!

We borrowed 4 donkeys from our landlord, last year, to cut the grass on the front 'garden'. It took them about a month, and swo for three moonths of last year we had donkeys, and for the last month we had a baby donkey. never seen anything cuter.

funny thing about donkeys, people think they don't need water - but they do like to drink water. we gave them a fresh bucket every day, and they drank it. they never bit us, but they would nibble affectionately. I suppose it depends on the temperment.

only get a boy if you (and any neighbours in a four mile radius) enjoy being woken up to a loud hee haaaaaawwwwwww at first light. As it happens, we do. Laughing Also the males are more bouncy and given to playing you up, if they're going to.

I'll stop now, but if there's anything I can add then say - I spent a lot of last year reading about, talking about and messing about with donkeys!!

(will add photo of baby donkey later...)

Thanks for that lads Very Happy . I was thinking about one of the goats to do a bit of draught work but apart from a bit of pack work I dont think that they quite fit a cart. I know the draught Goat society do this but a donkey will pull a cart with no problems. As to the biting Blowin. I am sure that stubbornness and biting etc is reflected by how they have been brought up and handled. Or so the books tell me Confused So a couple of youngens will give me a fresh start. I would love to see your picks Wayoutwest. Wink
